Congenital heart disease in pregnancy

For mothers with heart conditions in pregnancy, and who live in Wessex (Dorset, Hampshire and IOW), there is a clinic organised jointly by cardiologists and obstetricians, at the Princess Anne Hospital, Southampton.

Referrals should be made to:

  • Cardiology: Dr Aisling Carroll or Dr Sam Fitzsimmons
  • Obstetrics : Mr David Howe or Dr Raji Parasuraman

The Somerville Foundation works with patients born with a congenital heart condition, providing practical and emotional support, and enabling them to take control of their lives and manage their own heart condition. Patients with a congenital heart problem hoping to become, or already are pregnant, need to consider and be aware of specific issues. Their motto: Prior Planning Prevents Poor Pregnancy Performance.

Improving the physical and emotional health and wellbeing of expectant mothers, infants, children and young people throughout Aneurin Bevan University Health Board Area.
